The 5 "W"s.

Who am I?

I am a Certified Health Coach, mother of 3, wife to my 14 year old husband (age of the marriage, of course)- and somewhere in the middle a huge investigation about health! Laughter, food from the ground, an abundance of water, exercise, wine, creativity and financial stability are only a few pieces involved in this appraisal! I believe health is not weight, diet is not a fad, and you are what you eat. Just as each system within the human body is connected to every other system, so is your mood, your food, and your attitude connected. I am interested and motivated in helping myself and others find synergy and balance by pursuing this daily investigation of health.

Where do I live?

The United States, Eastern Seaboard to be exact, with my husband, three growing children, an aging yellow lab, a creepy black cat, and a very big puppy. I sew in the mean time, write in the morning, play with other's children during mother's hours, cook in the evening, and am trying to learn to play the guitar. On weekends I love to run with my family or hike in the woods, swim in the ocean or treasure hunt in thrift stores.

When did this start?

About three years ago, I watched a few documentaries that made me look at health differently. Health is not a condition we are dealt nor is it a destination; health is a feeling we are completely able to control with diet, exercise, laughter, passion and a touch of perspective.

Why?

Each of us is an individual person with an individual history, passion, genetic code, biology and future.  Because we are individuals, programs and fad diets that proudly claim they know how to make all healthy through weight-loss under one rule sickens me.
Dear reader, you are the only one who knows how to make yourself healthy (remember, health is only partially connected to your weight).  Investigating different dietary theories, the history of nutrition and the multifaceted concept of homeostasis through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I've learned we can all reach "eudaimonia", Human Flourishing, without the help of Weight Watchers.

What do I write about?

Every week you will see a focus on a different theme of ideas proposed to support health.  This blog is not only a platform to record my own evolving health and habits, but a place to encourage you to dive into your own relationship with health.  Your time is worth as much as mine, so I keep my thoughts to five paragraphs or less.

If you take nothing else away, I encourage you to eat real, naturally occurring food, to drink plenty of water, to give your vitamins their vitamins, and, as always, to remember to wash your hands...

...health may actually be just that simple.
